Our mission is to develop and deepen relationships with God and with one another so we grow together in faith as a church community.
At First Presbyterian Church of Lexington, we believe that Christian formation doesn't just look like any one thing. Sure, it's Bible study, Sunday school, youth group, and Wednesday night programming, but it's also choir, intergenerational meals, small groups, and conversations at home. In fact, most of what we do as disciples can be considered Christian formation!
We also believe that Christian formation primarily happens away from the church building. Most of us only spent 1-2 hours per week at church. How we spend the rest of our time, then, becomes essential if we want to continue to grow in our faith. Since March 2020, equipping people to intentionally engage in faith formation at home has been one of our top priorities. From Advent Boxes and Lent Bags to Zoom small groups and web-based resources, our hope is to provide individuals and families with the resources and encouragement they need to engage in theology (which, after all, is simply "God talk!") in all of the places life finds you beyond our beautiful building in downtown Lexington.

"Follow Me: Biblical Practices for Faithful Living"
In this season of our life together, we're using a new curriculum called "Follow Me: Biblical Practices for Faithful Living," which is published by the PC(USA). "Follow Me" is based on practices Jesus did and taught us to do as faithful followers. Written for people of all ages who wish to live out their faith, this curriculum examines where these practices are found in the Bible and how they have been used in Christian faith then and now.
Each month in worship, Sunday school, youth group, Wednesday Night Live!, and beyond, we'll dig into one faith practice that we'll explore from multiple angles. Each month from September to May, you'll find a new faith practice added to this site with additional resources about the practice and how you might practice the practice at home. |
Our goals for Christian formation
In the fall of 2021, the Christian formation team at FPC created age-based learning goals that now guide our faith formation ministries. These goals help us keep accountable to our mission of developing and deepening relationships with God and with one another so we grow together in faith as a church community. Learn more by reading our learning goals.
One last thing...
Before you dig into our resources, one pro tip: Do less more often. Don't try to run through all of the activities on this site. Don't try to read all of the books. Pick a few things that speak to you, and try them! Heck, you might even wind up doing the same nighttime prayer, yourself or with your family, every night for a whole year, and that's okay. We remember things when we repeat them, and repeat them often. And when we're forming faith, remembering what we learn and do (and God's love for us) is most important.
